You know what they say – you only get one chance to make a good first impression. That is so true, and when it comes to employers, you want to make that first impression count. Labor Solutions knows how important it is to start a new job on the right foot, so we’ve got some tips for making a lasting, positive impression on your first day.
Be Remembered for the Right Reasons
When Labor Solutions sends you out to a new employer, we have faith that you will present your best self to your supervisor. In case you aren’t sure how to go about doing that, just follow these tips and you’ll do great.
- Get enough sleep. When you’re tired or groggy, you may be sluggish, snappy, or forgetful. This is not the impression you’re going for! Set your alarm and get to bed on time before starting a new job.
- Be punctual. No one likes to have their time wasted waiting, so respect your employer’s time by showing up on time or a little early.
- Dress for success. Know the dress code before you head out the door on that first day, and wear something appropriate, clean, and that fits properly. It’s better to be a little overdressed than underdressed, but don’t overdo it.
- Introduce yourself with a smile. Be friendly! Make eye contact, smile, and be sincere. Make a mental note of the names of people you are introduced to – using their name three times in the first conversation will help you remember the name long-term.
- Be an active listener. Stay alert during introductions, orientations, and explanations. Take notes and ask questions when appropriate. Not only will this help you come across as engaged, but it will also serve you well when you are set to work on your own.
