When you need to hire people, the first thing you’ll need to do is to write a job description to advertise for the open position. But what is your job description actually conveying? Labor Solutions has some tips for phrases to avoid if you want to attract candidates.
Transparency Can Be Key
Here at Labor Solutions, we often get calls from companies frustrated by the fact that their job postings aren’t getting the responses they’d hoped for. While we’re always glad to help new clients find great employees, there are a few things you can do to improve your job listings.
- Include the pay rate. Salary transparency is becoming a big thing these days, so you should consider including the wage you’ll be paying in any job listing.
- Realistic job duties. Job seekers want to know what the position entails, but that doesn’t mean you need to list every detail that might possibly be involved. Balance the list of responsibilities with the posted pay rate.
- Watch what you say. Job titles that are too cutesy or fanciful might not be as eye-catching as you think – avoid silliness if you want to attract serious job candidates. On the other end of the spectrum, you don’t want to intimidate potential applicants with phrases like “must work well under pressure” or “fast-paced environment,” because it is a rare individual who wants to walk into a stressful workplace by choice every day. Try to strike a balance between a “fun” workplace and a “mature” environment.
