When you are employed in the hospitality industry, finding work-life balance can be difficult, but not impossible!
Labor Solutions staffs a lot of different companies in Florida and Georgia in a variety of industries. Since tourism is one of Florida’s biggest industries, it should be no surprise that there is a wealth of hospitality positions available in the area. Restaurants, hotels, theme parks, bars, cruise ships, airlines, and so much more have a constant need for employees. Hospitality work may seem glamorous at times, but it can also be a demanding profession that requires great motivation, dedication, and enthusiasm from those who labor in it. Still, it can be a very rewarding career.
Hospitality Work Requires Balance
Hospitality workers encounter unique challenges every day, and, ideally, they face them with a big smile and a positive attitude. One challenge that frequently comes up is scheduling. Being employed in hospitality often means working while friends and family are relaxing or out having fun. If people are going to enjoy a night out for dinner, the restaurants need to have cooks, servers, line prep cooks, and other staff members who are willing and able to work those evening shifts.
Even though employers may require a lot from their hospitality workers, it’s important to remember that we all have a right to some time off for ourselves. When working a hospitality position, it’s okay to disconnect sometimes when the shift is over and simply not accept or respond to any calls or texts from work. Being on call is vital to some establishments, but strike a balance so that you aren’t living your life “on call.”
Labor Solutions understands that hospitality employees work hard and, often, long hours. We value their service! We also encourage employers and employees to communicate clearly with each other what their needs and expectations are so as to avoid hostility due to unavailability or other avoidable factors. In many cases, a word in advance can make a big difference as to how a person responds to a request for time.
