There are a lot of people looking for work right now, so use this strategy to pull in candidates who will make the cut and then stick around.
As we are all well aware, 2020 has been an unusual year, to say the least. That being said, we at Labor Solutions have been keeping an eye on trends in the job market so we can best advise our clients and workers on how to get what they want professionally. Here is some insight as to what we think is the hiring strategy to go with these days.
Look at the Behavior – Not the Background
What do we mean by “Look at the behavior, not the background?” It means that a great employee is generally a great employee no matter where they work. A desirable employee is usually conscientious, reliable, detail-oriented, and a team player.
For example, the candidate who comes to your company with the right education, the right experience on paper, and good references, but shows up an hour late for the interview and skips simple social courtesies is probably going to be difficult to work with and to motivate. On the other hand, a candidate may apply who doesn’t have all the preferred work experience, and their degree is in another field, but they make a great first impression on the interviewer with their candor and punctuality. Candidate number two may be worth a second look.
What we’re saying here is basically don’t be afraid to train new employees to do the work you want them to do. Even if they don’t exactly fit the criteria you are looking for, if they have the soft skills to work well with others and pick up on new ideas quickly, you may have a star employee in the making.
Labor Solutions Loves Upskilling
At Labor Solutions, we encourage our clients to train new hires in the skills they will need on the job, and to continue educating workers over time on updated processes. We love to see people succeeding instead of stagnating, and one of the best ways to cultivate a strong workforce is by giving people the knowledge they need to thrive!
