Knowing the right questions to ask in an interview can be difficult.
There are lots of good candidates out there, but you may not have found the right one because you’re not asking the right interview questions. At Labor Solutions, we are dedicated to helping employers find the best candidates. Consider these questions instead of the common and overused “Tell me about yourself.”
Why are you interested in this job in particular?
While many job seekers most likely have looked at and applied to jobs other than the position you need to fill, it’s still important to know what exactly they see themselves doing in your company or business. Also, it shows whether the applicant has done their research on the company. Candidates who care will take the time for that research and ace this interview question.
What are your biggest weaknesses?
While this question may seem counterproductive, it is actually a great question to see whether the candidate is self-aware and open to constructive criticism. Honest candidates will share what they lack and the areas where they know they need to improve. They will show they are a good fit because good employees are constantly looking to improve themselves for the betterment of the company.
What are the greatest accomplishments in your career so far?
This question will help you determine how advanced the candidate is or how far they still need to come. This also will show the line of work they are best suited for. Taking pride in your work is important for any business to thrive and move forward.
What type of work environment are you most comfortable with?
This question is very important because it will give you a glimpse into the candidate’s personality. It will also help you determine if they are a good fit for your company. If they respond with an answer that is the opposite of your usual work environment, your decision to pass by the candidate may save both of you time and frustration.
Why did you leave your last job?
This is always a tricky topic to broach in the interview. Be mindful of how the candidate answers you. Obviously, speaking negatively about former employers is frowned upon, but some people will still do it.
